Background
Has collected butterflies and moths in Utah since 1934.
Assisted George Austin in collecting Cercyonis pegala utahensis. After naming this subspecies, George designated the type locality as Joel's farm in Benjamin, Utah County.
Served 3 years as first Editor of Utahensis--at that time the bulletin for the Utah Lepidopterists' Society.
Has focused primarily on a Survey of Utah Moth Species since 1990. Engaged in moth trapping and photography.
Served as Arrangements Chairman and Director of The Pacific Slope Section of The Lepidopterists' Society, held in Ephraim Canyon, Utah in July, 1996.
Responsible for compiling the 2003 most comprehensive checklist for Utah moths!
In 1995, authored and published "An Update to the Nomenclature of Holland's Moth Book."
