Utah Habitats for Butterflies and Moths
Wasatch Hilltops
4. Wasatch Hilltops 8. Montane 9. Utah's Dixie |
The breathtaking views of the tops of Utah's Wasatch Range rivals any other habitat or physiogeographic region in the state of Utah. At the same time the diversity of flora and fauna there can be extensive--even to exceed that of the Wasatch Canyons below.
Many of the butterfly species that fly in any one of Utah's Wasatch Canyons may be found near the tops of the mountains. However, there are a few species of Utah butterflies that can only be found at the tops of the Wasatch Mountains.
Because of the average level of Utah snow pack--which can vary from year to year--most of the butterflies and moths fly at this habitat during the months of June through September. Because of the shortness of time period, most lepidoptera only have one brood.
